On April 17th, Yakov Lieberman, Holocaust survivor and chairman of the Jerusalem Association of Holocaust Survivors, took part in the Zikaron BaSalon project in Jerusalem, in the Va’Ani Tefila community of Rabbi Aaron Leibovich. Yakov shared the story of his family’s salvation, talked about how they were saved from certain death several times thanks to the courage of his mother. As a child that was only 4 years old, he was forced to flee his hometown of Rostov-on-Don away from the Nazi occupation in conditions of deprivation, hunger and suffering. He survived the Holocaust and continues to tell his story to the younger generation. “I believe that God saved me so that I could make Aliyah to Israel. This is my home,” is one of the inspirational quotes from that evening. One of the missions of Yakov’s life is to do everything so that the Holocaust does not happen again, and to take care of the survivors who are still with us.
